Using Middle Eastern rhythms, music and dance as inspiration, participants will dance, drum, make theatre and rituals together that deepen our connection to the sacred in our everyday lives. The creative activities are grounded in an atmosphere of beauty, pleasure and nourishment.

Learn the ancient feminine dance of the Middle East. This workshop will take you to the roots of Bellydance. Based on circles, weight shift and allowing authenticity in the body. Raqs Sharqi brings groundedness and alignment by engaging the power in the pelvic area. This dance encourage sphysical presence and expressiveness in the body bringing beauty and sensuality into everyday life.

Each day we will begin with a low impact warm up emphasising stretching and connecting with the creative centre in the body.

This year our dance will have the flavour of the refined classical oriental style with emphasis on perfecting the Egyptian walk. 

As well , we will create an environment of pleasure and pampering focusing on the feet, with foot baths, simple massage and foot adornment .

During the week we will develop a choreographed piece.

Student Requirements :

Please Bring :

• A veil if you have one. Shekhinah will have some to loan.

• 2 full, floor length skirts that sit on the hips ( circle skirts are the best).

• Body suits or crop tops or bellydance bras , if you have them.

• A scarf and/or any bellydance belts you may wish to use during the week .

  There will be some for sale at the workshop.

• A comfy cushion, if you can carry it.

• Foot decorations e.g. nail polish, henna, anklets etc, if you have them.
